Hey dudes and dudettes! 💕😌

So let’s get into it—Wicked: Part One was definitely one of my fave films this year. I mean it was visually stunning, emotionally rich, and gave musical theater excellence on screen 🎭💫!

Heads up: SPOILERS BELOW⛔️! So if you haven’t watched yet—bookmark this for later 😉

💚The Heart of the Story: Elphaba

Let’s start with Elphaba—our misunderstood, courageous queen. From the jump, you feel for her. She’s treated like an outsider because of her green skin, misunderstood by her family, and lowkey villainized just for existing with integrity. Her entire arc is rooted in fighting for what’s right, and I loved that we got to see her own her power, especially in that final flying scene 😭💚.

🩷Glinda the Guilt Witch (Yes, I said it!)

Now about Glinda…. She was giving insecurity in glitter for most of the movie! She masked her people-pleasing ways behind bubbly charm and popularity, but we all know that wasn’t the real her. Her relationship with Elphaba is such a mirror of our own internal struggles: who we present to the world vs. who we truly are. And listen, their chemistry—both friendly and frenemy—was top tier.

✨What Worked:

✔️ Strong character development for Elphaba

✔️ Gorgeous costuming (Elphaba was eating in every outfit!)

✔️ Emotional performances that gave Broadway-level energy

✔️ The themes of justice, self-acceptance, and moral strength really stood out

🧙‍♂️🪄What I Wished For:

• A more dramatic and shady entrance for the Wizard (hello? We needed more flair!)

• More screen time and depth for Nessa👠 and Boq👨‍🌾—they felt a little rushed

• The headmistress should’ve had a more layered, manipulative presence (I mean, give us subtle villainy!)

• And yes, Glinda should’ve had at least one moment where someone finally checked her delusions 🫢💅🏾

🌟Themes That Stuck With Me:

• Being different isn’t a curse—it’s your calling

• Truth-tellers rarely get applause in the moment

• It’s better to be real and rejected than fake and adored

Elphaba really said, “I’d rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I’m not.” And I felt that in my bones!

🎬 Final Thoughts:

This movie was so heartfelt and engrossing. It’s definitely a rewatch and has me counting down the days until Part Two drops! Let’s just hope they tie up those loose ends and give everyone the character closure they deserve!

Rating: 9/10

Only because Glinda needed a little more humble pie and the Wizard needed to serve more con artistry.
