OMG, y’all. The Summer I Turned Pretty is a whole emotional rollercoaster wrapped up in gorgeous aesthetics, dreamy outfits, and beachy summer vibes. Jenny Han really outdid herself. I laughed. I cried. I wanted to slap some characters and hug them at the same time.
Let’s talk Belly. I adore her, but girl… sometimes your pride gets in the way of being honest with yourself and everyone around you. Her feelings for Conrad? A little messy. Her friendship with Taylor? Complicated. But that’s life, right? We all make mistakes, and this show doesn’t sugarcoat it.
Conrad was also a heartbreak. Grieving his mom, shutting down emotionally, letting everyone project their insecurities on him… Ugh, my heart. The poor guy deserved some real emotional grace and honesty from himself and the people around him.
And Jeremiah… don’t even get me started. He’s insecure, petty, annoying, and completely unworthy of Belly or anyone else romantically. Seriously, therapy, self-reflection, and maybe a career as a swim instructor—he needs to work on himself before dragging anyone else along. Steven? Meh. Taylor deserved someone consistent, passionate, and actually emotionally available.
Now for the aesthetic dreams: I wanted a Conrad-proposing-in-Paris moment, a dreamy summer back at Cousins Beach, and everyone finally getting the emotional growth they deserve. Picture it: Belly and Conrad happy, Taylor thriving with someone new, Jeremiah in therapy (finally), and even John and Laurel restoring their marriage vibes. Pure perfection.
But here’s the thing: despite the drama, the missteps, and the frenemy vibes, this show is beautiful, funny, messy, and oh-so-human. Jenny Han nailed the vibe, the characters, and the aesthetic feels, making it the kind of show you can watch over and over and still relate to deeply.
TL;DR: If you’re into messy love, emotional growth, dreamy summer aesthetics, and characters you’ll want to punch and hug at the same time… The Summer I Turned Pretty is your vibe.
